The Revision: Lady Snowblood

A still from Lady Snowblood

Lady Snowblood is fun. Given the subject matter, that feels like a strange thing to say, but that was my immediate reaction.

The Revision: Baba Yaga

A still from Baba Yaga (1973)

Some people end up dead because of Valentina’s now-cursed camera and there are doll doppelgangers that sometimes come alive. Yes, trying to explain it, it all sounds silly but the comic blends what’s real and what’s not in such a masterful way.

The Revision: Barbarella

A screenshot from the movie Barbarella

In Jean-Claude Forest’s Barbarella, the title character is a young Earth woman adventuring her way through the universe, encountering various problems and new sexual partners along the way. It’s deeply weird and more fun than I expected.

The Revision: Modesty Blaise

A scene from Modesty Blaise, 1966

Modesty Blaise (1966, directed by Joseph Losey) is fun enough if you pretend it’s not related to the comic strip, other than the name and the general concept. It’s still not entirely successful on its own but that makes it less disappointing. And that’s “less disappointing.” It’s still a disappointing movie overall.

The Revision: The Belles of St. Trinian’s

A still from The Belles of St. Trinian's

The cartoons don’t really have a consistent plot or characters (some are given names but most are not) but give glimpses into a boarding school where the girls are nothing but trouble.

Shower curtain! It's by @hangtight. I knew I wanted to do blue and orange (I already had navy towels) and you know, it's a bathroom, so water ... Somehow that led to koi and I saw this and it was perfect. We think these were from my maternal grandfather's mother. They have a D initial, which works with a family name. Four have years on the back of the handles (1916, 1917, 1918, and 1919), which tracks with what we know. Split Enz - History Never Repeats (Best of) I still have so much stuff to move but I overdid it a bit yesterday & my back was really telling me no. I still made a couple of trips and, of course, went to Target. But I also assembled my patio furniture (not perfectly but I blame the product/vague instructions. It won't collapse or anything). I am excited to have a patio! Luna - Lunafied (sides A and C) yeah, The Zombies is not Black Sabbath, but it was a good night of music. New hair color, except, well, it's essentially my natural color (minus my grays). I needed a change. I really need a haircut but I don't know what. @jigjamlive at @strathmorearts tonight. It would've been more fun on the lawn, of course, but they were great. I'm a fan now! Bjork: Post
