The Revision: Lady Snowblood

A still from Lady Snowblood

Lady Snowblood is fun. Given the subject matter, that feels like a strange thing to say, but that was my immediate reaction.

The Revision: Baba Yaga

A still from Baba Yaga (1973)

Some people end up dead because of Valentina’s now-cursed camera and there are doll doppelgangers that sometimes come alive. Yes, trying to explain it, it all sounds silly but the comic blends what’s real and what’s not in such a masterful way.

The Revision: Barbarella

A screenshot from the movie Barbarella

In Jean-Claude Forest’s Barbarella, the title character is a young Earth woman adventuring her way through the universe, encountering various problems and new sexual partners along the way. It’s deeply weird and more fun than I expected.

The Revision: Modesty Blaise

A scene from Modesty Blaise, 1966

Modesty Blaise (1966, directed by Joseph Losey) is fun enough if you pretend it’s not related to the comic strip, other than the name and the general concept. It’s still not entirely successful on its own but that makes it less disappointing. And that’s “less disappointing.” It’s still a disappointing movie overall.

The Revision: The Belles of St. Trinian’s

A still from The Belles of St. Trinian's

The cartoons don’t really have a consistent plot or characters (some are given names but most are not) but give glimpses into a boarding school where the girls are nothing but trouble.

Sasha Velour's Travesty was amazing. It was the 250th show of Izzard's Hamlet and so that was fun. She did take a brief video in the lobby to celebrate and I might be briefly in the background. https://www.instagram.com/p/DW2Q9oCEyty/ I bought plants! It's UK punk night! Lady Gaga! I won't take photos during the show because I want to experience it. Super Furry Animals night. The last few are 7 inch singles. My mom, @tracymillerdesigns, took 80 of her collages and created a deck of Insight Cards called The Open Door. I've had my deck for a few days and it's a lot of fun. The results are kind and playful and surprising. They're now for sale in her Etsy shop. Mostly all various artists but a lot of Giorgio Moroder.
