The Batter’s Eye: The Jackie Robinson Story

A still from The Jackie Robinson Story

At less than 80 minutes, The Jackie Robinson Story (1950, directed by Alfred E. Green) isn’t going to be a comprehensive biography. His early life is covered in broad strokes before the movie makes it to the pivotal point where he was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers’ farm team.

The Batter’s Eye: Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly in Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I’m not sure how this movie is as boring as it is. Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949, directed by Busby Berkeley) stars Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Esther Williams. It’s a musical about baseball! It should work but it does not. The […]

The Batter’s Eye: It Happens Every Spring

Paul Douglas and Ray Milland in It Happens Every Spring

Vernon (Ray Milland) is a chemist and baseball superfan. He accidentally creates a chemical that repels wood, so he coats a baseball in it and lies his way onto the St. Louis team as a pitcher, and cheats his way to a World Series win.

The Batter’s Eye: The Pride of the Yankees

A still from The Pride of the Yankees

We all know how this story ends, even if we don’t know the details. Released not that long after Lou Gehrig died, The Pride of the Yankees (1942, directed by Sam Wood) is less of a biopic and more of a tribute.

We think these were from my maternal grandfather's mother. They have a D initial, which works with a family name. Four have years on the back of the handles (1916, 1917, 1918, and 1919), which tracks with what we know. Split Enz - History Never Repeats (Best of) I still have so much stuff to move but I overdid it a bit yesterday & my back was really telling me no. I still made a couple of trips and, of course, went to Target. But I also assembled my patio furniture (not perfectly but I blame the product/vague instructions. It won't collapse or anything). I am excited to have a patio! Luna - Lunafied (sides A and C) yeah, The Zombies is not Black Sabbath, but it was a good night of music. New hair color, except, well, it's essentially my natural color (minus my grays). I needed a change. I really need a haircut but I don't know what. @jigjamlive at @strathmorearts tonight. It would've been more fun on the lawn, of course, but they were great. I'm a fan now! Bjork: Post Photos from my Camp Snap. Yeah, my Pixel took better photos but these are fun and charming. I will forever love novelty cameras and I didn't want to travel with my Diana this time so this was fun.
