The Revision: We Are the Best!

Bobo (Mira Barkhammar), Klara (Mira Grosin) and Hedvig (Liv LeMoyne) in We Are the Best!

In 1982, Coco Moodysson was 12 years old and wanted nothing more than to start a punk band. The little matter of not being able to play an instrument (or even owning one) didn’t matter to her, her friend Klara, and Klara’s sister, Matilda. They also didn’t care everyone kept telling them punk was over.

The Revision: Joséphine

Marilou Berry in Joséphine

The title character of Joséphine is a 30-something single woman navigating career, family, and her love life. Pénélope Bagieu’s comic isn’t necessarily treading any unexpected ground, but it tackles its subjects with playful humor.

The Revision: Blue Is the Warmest Color

Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux in Blue Is the Warmest Color

On the surface, the story should work effectively as a movie, but Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) is mostly an odd mess and one that doesn’t do the tenderness of the graphic novel justice.

The Revision: Helter Skelter

Liliko from Mika Ninagawa's Helter Skelter

Kyoko Okazaki’s Helter Skelter is a surreal look into the dark side of fame. While it’s a well-tread territory, Okazaki’s skill at presenting Liliko’s descent is disturbing and harrowing as she pulls more and more people into her immoral world.

The Revision: Aya of Yop City

A still from Aya of Yop City

The comic is funny, to be fair, but the movie just feels a bit looser and more playful as it heightens the slapstick elements and the absurdities of everyday life.

Cabaret was amazing. More thoughts later. I hope Orville Peck does more theater. Off to NYC. One of my gifts is randomly finding four-leaf clovers without really trying. Or in this case, a five-leaf clover. It's 1975 night! No real reason for this. We'll just pretend 1975 wasn't 50 years ago or anything so we don't feel old. -The Cure: Standing on the Beach: The Singles Madonna - Madonna OK, this might be the last batch of Diana photos from Michigan. There may be one or two more that are good but this tends to cover all of best ones. More photos from my Diana. No editing other than to crop into squares. Diana photos from Michigan. I have more but I liked these the best. I had 48 possible shots and I would say about 35 turned out decently. I am still learning this camera and the overcast weather had me worried but I'm really pleased.
