The Batter’s Eye: The Pride of the Yankees

A still from The Pride of the Yankees

We all know how this story ends, even if we don’t know the details. Released not that long after Lou Gehrig died, The Pride of the Yankees (1942, directed by Sam Wood) is less of a biopic and more of a tribute.

The Batter’s Eye: Up the River

Humphrey Bogart in Up the River

Happy Opening Day! It’s officially baseball season, with all the ups and downs that come with being a baseball fan (and since I’m a Nationals fan, that’s mostly downs, sadly). To celebrate baseball season this year, I’ve decided to watch a baseball movie every week. I’m starting with Up the River from 1930.

Super Furry Animals night. The last few are 7 inch singles. My mom, @tracymillerdesigns, took 80 of her collages and created a deck of Insight Cards called The Open Door. I've had my deck for a few days and it's a lot of fun. The results are kind and playful and surprising. They're now for sale in her Etsy shop. Mostly all various artists but a lot of Giorgio Moroder. Tori Amos forever. Gel plate print of a photo I took of the Markel Building in Richmond. This was a simple one but turned out exactly how I wanted. (The background is slightly metallic.) Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life I did a stained glass workshop today and it was fun! The result was fine if you don't look too closely at it. I, thankfully, don't need to pick this up as a hobby (it's a bit too fussy for me) but I wouldn't mind trying again at some point. I only go to shows featuring British comedians at Warner Theater now. One of the saddest cookbooks of all time?
