The Revision: Lady Oscar

A still from Lady Oscar

I always really want to love Lady Oscar (1979, directed by Jacques Demy) but it is one of my biggest cinematic disappointments.

The Revision: Lady Snowblood

A still from Lady Snowblood

Lady Snowblood is fun. Given the subject matter, that feels like a strange thing to say, but that was my immediate reaction.

The Revision: Baba Yaga

A still from Baba Yaga (1973)

Some people end up dead because of Valentina’s now-cursed camera and there are doll doppelgangers that sometimes come alive. Yes, trying to explain it, it all sounds silly but the comic blends what’s real and what’s not in such a masterful way.

The Revision: Modesty Blaise

A scene from Modesty Blaise, 1966

Modesty Blaise (1966, directed by Joseph Losey) is fun enough if you pretend it’s not related to the comic strip, other than the name and the general concept. It’s still not entirely successful on its own but that makes it less disappointing. And that’s “less disappointing.” It’s still a disappointing movie overall.

The Revision: Brenda Starr, Reporter

The comic strip is weird, delightful and fun and I don’t understand is how much this film serial completely misunderstands what makes Brenda Starr a great heroine.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DK6JzQXMvJ4/ Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power We were the smallest team at four members (teams could have up to 7) but we also had two former Jeopardy! contestants. It was us versus one other team for most of it, but a risky wager & a changed answer at the end helped put us over the edge. It was fun. -Tom Robinson Band - Power in the Darkness (but the bonus record) These are probably best of the Diana NYC photos, other than the one I already posted. One roll of film didn't seem like it loaded correctly so some weird things happened when it was developed. (It was a speciality roll anyway.) I am going to go through the photos I took in NYC with my Diana (some came out weird but still cool). I love this one so much, though. It was sci-fi night! I'll do another night of this! It was fun! Ai Yazawa manga & a cool T-shirt. I'm going to see how much I have left in me for NYC for the rest of the day. Fort Tryon Park, The Cloisters & then the Hilma af Klint exhibit at MoMA. That was focused on her botanical paintings, which are lovely, but I like her abstract stuff better. Still, I'm glad I got to see it.
