The Batter’s Eye: The Natural

the Natural is good. It’s even great in that award-bait way, which this absolutely is. Nothing here is particularly surprising, but there is an economy to the filmmaking that lets this movie breathe.

The Batter’s Eye: The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings

The comedy and the cast are excellent, but what really impressed me about The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976, directed by John Badham) is it’s also a fun look at baseball history.

The Batter’s Eye: Bad News Bears

A still from Bad News Bears

One thing I love about baseball is how open and accepting it is. It’s a game anyone can play, even if they can’t play it well.

The Batter’s Eye: Bang the Drum Slowly

Robert De Niro and Michael Moriarty in Bang the Drum Slowly

Learning more about baseball has taught me about the essential relationship between the pitcher and the catcher. Bang the Drum Slowly is definitely about that.

The Batter’s Eye: Damn Yankees

Tab Hunter and Gwen Verdon in Damn Yankees

Another good way to win at baseball is to sell your soul to the devil. Based on the Broadway musical, Damn Yankees is about a Washington Senators fan, Joe who would do anything for the team to win.

I've started making gel plate prints. I'm still learning but it's been a fun process. It's a little unpredictable but that is part of why I enjoy it. I look forward to doing more (It's been ... maybe a week? And I haven't done it every day. I'm already impressed with my progress.) And part 2 of the double feature, of course. First half of my classic Halloween double-feature, Ghostwatch. This is a cover of an issue of Young Love I scanned and made into a poster years ago. I love this image so much but there wasn't really a good spot for it in any of the rooms of new place but hey, hallway between the kitchen and the bedroom works. 'I don't like horror, I just own physical copies of all of these movies for no reason." I have a signed copy of Bryan Talbot's The Tale of One Bad Rat. It's an amazing book but I have read it exactly once and every time I flip through it, I can't. The Beatles - 1962-1966 (only sides 1 & 2) PJ Harvey - Rid of Me The Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
