The Batter’s Eye: Hardball: The Girls of Summer

Women have played baseball from the beginning of the sport, but as men’s leagues dominated, girls and women got pushed into softball. Professional (or even semi-professional) women’s baseball leagues all but disappeared.

The Batter’s Eye: Weeds on Fire

Yeah, it’s a familiar story, even more so as Lung and Wai’s friendship turns into a rivalry, but it’s baseball. The usual beats of this story are comforting in a lot of ways. We watch baseball movies to see the underdogs become champions and this delivers on that.

The Batter’s Eye: The Battered Bastards of Baseball

Baseball loves underdogs and misfits. Regardless of how true that is or not in reality, that’s the impression the sport gives. It’s a game where everyone can find a chance to shine.

The Batter’s Eye: 42

42 (2013, directed by Brian Helgeland) feels like it was made more with “prestige” in mind than any interest in Jackie Robinson’s story. While The Jackie Robinson Story has its flaws, it at least let audiences get to know who Robinson was.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DOjdx0fEZK8/ Happy to have hung @pitzergirl's cool collage in my bathroom! I need a few more things to round out the overall look but I love it. I first read about this in Trina Robbins' work and it was always something I wanted to read. I'm delighted @nyrcomics published this and I look forward to digging into it. Shower curtain! It's by @hangtight. I knew I wanted to do blue and orange (I already had navy towels) and you know, it's a bathroom, so water ... Somehow that led to koi and I saw this and it was perfect. We think these were from my maternal grandfather's mother. They have a D initial, which works with a family name. Four have years on the back of the handles (1916, 1917, 1918, and 1919), which tracks with what we know. Split Enz - History Never Repeats (Best of) I still have so much stuff to move but I overdid it a bit yesterday & my back was really telling me no. I still made a couple of trips and, of course, went to Target. But I also assembled my patio furniture (not perfectly but I blame the product/vague instructions. It won't collapse or anything). I am excited to have a patio! Luna - Lunafied (sides A and C) yeah, The Zombies is not Black Sabbath, but it was a good night of music.
